Zachariah Lowe​ is the curriculum coach at PreK-8th grade R.E. Davis College Preparatory Academy in Sumter School District. He was the 2017-18 Sumter School District Teacher of the Year and a former South Carolina Honor Roll Teacher, having been named a top-five finalist for 2019 State Teacher of the Year. Originally from Northeast Ohio, Zachariah became a teacher to “make a positive influence in the lives of the next generation of world leaders.” Lowe graduated from The University of Akron with a Bachelor's Degree in AYA Social Studies Education in 2014 and from The University of South Carolina-Columbia with a Master's Degree in Educational Administration in 2017. He is a current doctoral student at Tiffin University, studying Global Leadership and Change. He has worked tirelessly to ensure that his students become critical thinkers and doers. His students have been recognized at both local and national levels for awards such as the National WWII Museum’s Billy Michal Student Leadership Award, the NASC/Ruth Hollander Award for outstanding contributions to participation in democracy, and a recycling grant from the South Carolina Department of Health and Environment Control. Mr. Lowe himself has been awarded several accolades for his work inside and outside the classroom. He attended the C-SPAN Summer Educator Conference, the Ford’s Theatre Summer Teachers’ program in Washington, D.C., the Colonial Willamsburg Summer Teacher Institute, and a summer fellowship at the United States Supreme Court. In addition, he has authored a chapter for a National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS) publication and has served as a presenter and co-presenter, at numerous national, regional, and local workshops and conferences. Within the local Sumter community, Mr. Lowe has been a "Top-20 Professional Under 40" and is the 2019 Chamber of Commerce's Young Professional of Sumter.
