Teaching in a one-to-one, virtual, or blended environment during COVID is always going to be a challenge. The classroom transition is always a hectic time. Students are coming in and out (secondary) or ending one subject and starting another (elementary). The transition is a time to (re)focus students on the tasks ahead.
Before being one-to-one I would always use my projector display. The purpose was to focus the students and free me. I could pull students, set-up my material, or even, wait for it....drink some water! We know how demanding the day is in the life of a teacher.
Now that you are most likely one teaching one-to-one and/or virtually I'm making a new recommendation. Start front-loading these transition directions in the LMS. This allows you to again, be free. You can now prepare for the lesson, set-up your Zoom/Google Meet, take attendance, and hey maybe even drink some water!
The most important piece is for you to be consistent and expect students to follow the system. If you are posting everything in the LMS but also doing the projector, they will never go to the LMS.
